Stories that connect us to ourselves and each other

Through books, games, and teaching, I explore the narratives that shape our lives— from immigrant courage to the quiet ache of loneliness, from the humor of parenthood to the joy of play.

Welcome! I am Azhar Laher, and my journey is defined by a deep-seated passion for human connection, equity, and the power of shared experiences. As an educator, author, and human capital consultant, I have dedicated my career to helping organizations and individuals thrive. Whether I am teaching the next generation of leaders as a Professor or consulting with senior executives on building authentic workplace cultures, my goal remains the same: to foster environments where everyone feels they truly belong.

My professional path has been shaped by over 30 years of experience across two continents: South Africa and Canada. Since moving to Toronto, I have applied this global perspective to various sectors, including banking, telecommunications, and retail. I am a collaborative leader and a "consensus builder" who can galvanize teams into action while maintaining a contagious passion for excellence.

One of my greatest honours has been giving a voice to the diverse stories that make up the Canadian fabric. My book, Journey To Home: Canadian Immigrant and Refugee Stories of Hope and Courage, explores the raw and honest realities of moving to a new country— the "dark days" of uncertainty alongside the triumphs of ingenuity. I believe that diversity of thought is a critical ingredient for a competitive economy, and I am a vocal advocate for moving past narrow hiring practices to attract globally qualified professionals.

My earlier book, Confessions of a Dad: My Kids Don't Understand the Value of Money, explores the lighter side of parenting and the universal challenges of raising financially literate children.

When I am not in a boardroom or a classroom, you can usually find me enjoying a coffee, ideally with tiramisu, getting lost in a local bookstore, or feeling the sand between my toes at the beach. I am a devoted family man, a loyal fan of Toronto's sports teams, and an avid Scrabble enthusiast.

I value honesty, perseverance, and the spirit of paying it forward. I believe we are all searching for the same thing: a better, safer, and more contented life.

Current Project

Voices of Loneliness

I am also deeply committed to addressing the quieter struggles we face in modern society. My latest project, Voices of Loneliness, is a dedicated space for sharing experiences and finding connection in an increasingly isolated world. This project reflects my belief that by sharing our vulnerabilities, we return the favour of making the journey easier for those who come after us.
